Check out this total yard transformation we did in Sandy Springs. This yard had horrible drainage issues, everytime it would rain the pool would flood with water and mud. The retaining wall that was installed by the previous homeowners was installed completely wrong and was failing miserably. It was not high enough, nor built correctly. G & S Designs Outdoor Living Pools got called out for some landscaping and other work for another designer that was previously used by the homeowner on their last house. He wanted us to remove and replace this exisitng smaller wall, install plants and boulders, etc.
During the walk through there were several huge problems that jumped out at Garrett, the owner, maybe it was the drainage pipe coming out of the steps, or the hole in the left side of the wall with another pipe coming out. I felt very uneasy about doing anything in this yard until we fixed that wall. Garrett actually made a powerpoint to help educate the homeowners about how retaining walls are supposed to be built and function, the homeowners acknowdlege the failing and said yes everytime it rains our pool floods with mud. Water would run down the retaining wall steps, over the wall, out of the drains coming out of the wall, it was a mess they said. The yard and pool were aslo very outdated, from the 80s. We advised the clients that the wall would need to be replaced in its entirity, and we could used the dirt to create berms (rounded mound of compacted dirt) and direct the water to a new drainage system. It would also make sense to redo the surrounding pool area as well due to the fact of having to drive over the new sod to get the pool debris out at a later date. Sometimes it works to be able to do parts of the project at seperate times, but unfortunately there was only 1 way in and 1 way out, and would actually save the homeowners money doing it all together. These are all conversations we have during our our initial design consult. We know that staging projects is preferred and we are here to help create the right plan that is the most cost savings to you.
This project was our largest project to date. It came out awesome. Check out the journey below.
